2022 Race
May 7, 2022
It's with a mix of regret and reflection that we write to you about the year that's passed - a year without the familiar rhythm of our annual 10K race. We know that for many of you, the absence of our event left a void in your running calendars and hearts.
First and foremost, we want to apologize. We're sorry that we couldn't make the race happen this year. The decision to cancel wasn't made lightly, and we understand the disappointment it caused. Every time we passed the would-be start line or finish line during our own runs, we felt a pang of what could have been.
We've heard your questions, your concerns, and yes, even your frustrations. Each one has been a reminder of how much this race means to our community. Your passion for this event is what makes it special, and we feel we've let that passion down this year.
In the silence of race day morning, when we should have been setting up water stations and pinning on race bibs, we found ourselves reflecting on what we could have done differently. Should we have pushed harder to find alternatives? Could we have been more creative in our problem-solving? These questions have kept us up at night, and we promise they will inform our planning going forward.
But amidst our regret, we've also found hope. We've seen you out there, still running, still supporting each other. You've organized informal group runs, shared virtual challenges, and kept the spirit of our running community alive. Your resilience has been both humbling and inspiring.
To our volunteers who were ready to give their time, our sponsors who had pledged their support, and every single runner who had marked this race on their calendar: we are deeply sorry. Your commitment deserved to be matched by our event, and we fell short this year.
As we look to the future, we're determined to learn from this experience. We're already planning for next year, taking into account the lessons from this challenging time. We're committed to coming back stronger, with an event that will make up for lost time.
We ask for your patience, your understanding, and, if you can find it in your hearts, your forgiveness. The Soles of Medfield 10K isn't just our event - it's yours. And we promise to honor that in everything we do moving forward.
Keep running, keep pushing, and please, keep believing in us. We'll see you at the starting line next year.
